Miyashita Aoyama

Designed by Kengo Kuma, Kurayamizaka Miyashita Aoyama is a Japanese restaurant that blends architecture with nature.

The building's exterior features vertical wooden slats that create a rhythmic façade, integrating with the surrounding bamboo grove. A bamboo-lined path leads into the space, guiding visitors from the city into a more serene environment.

Inside, the dimly lit interior focuses on warmth and intimacy. Private dining rooms are arranged to frame views of the bamboo garden, reinforcing the connection between the architecture and its natural surroundings. Kuma’s use of light and shadow, along with natural materials, creates a dynamic atmosphere.

Kengo Kuma’s architectural office is located on the second floor, making the restaurant a direct expression of his design philosophy, where space, materials, and experience come together.
