Tokyo International Forum
The Tokyo International Forum was designed by Rafael Viñoly and completed in 1996. Located in the Marunouchi district, the 6.7-acre complex supports performances, exhibitions, and business events.
Its central element is the Glass Hall, a boat-shaped atrium measuring 228 meters in length and 60 meters in height. The space is defined by exposed steel trusses and a transparent glass skin. The structure allows natural light to enter from multiple directions, creating changing conditions throughout the day. Light filters down to the lower levels, where circulation and public spaces extend the atrium underground.
The building connects above and below ground, using structure, light, and scale to organize movement and program.
