Above Horizon is an art installation designed by James Turrell, situated on a steep slope below the Sheats-Goldstein Residence in Los Angeles. Originally intended as a collaboration between Turrell and architect John Lautner, the project became solely Turrell’s vision following Lautner's passing in 2004.

At its center are two striking features: a circular oculus and a retractable corner portal. These openings frame the sky, setting the stage for light shows at dawn and dusk. The interplay between natural and artificial light shifts perceptions of depth and color, creating a dynamic visual experience.

The space is illuminated by 5,000 concealed LEDs, which transform the walls with evolving hues as evening falls. A concrete lounge offers a contemplative vantage point, while the radiant-heated floor and smooth plaster walls enhance the tranquil, meditative atmosphere. Above Horizon invites viewers to explore the interplay of light, time, and space, leaving a lasting impression of beauty and connection.
